The electronic games market in Brazil is on the rise, solidifying its position as one of the country’s most profitable and dynamic entertainment sectors. In recent years, data has shown that Brazil stands out as one of the world’s leading gaming markets. Several factors contribute to this growth, such as increased internet access, the widespread use of smartphones and tablets, and the greater production of gaming-related content.

Global Growth

On the global stage, according to consultancy firm Newzoo, the global gaming market is projected to reach $187.7 billion in 2024, marking a 2.1% increase compared to the previous year. Mobile gaming accounts for approximately 50% of this total, driven by its popularity in markets like Brazil. The report also indicates that 3.4 billion people are gaming enthusiasts worldwide.

Brazil is the largest gaming market in Latin America and ranks 10th globally in consumption. However, Brazilian figures still fall behind other regions. Latin America is expected to contribute $9.1 billion to the global total, reflecting a 6.2% growth compared to 2023. The United States leads the rankings, generating $47 billion in gaming revenue, closely followed by China at $45 billion.

Strong Numbers in Brazil

Mirroring global growth, Brazil’s gaming market is also evolving rapidly. Newzoo estimates that Brazilian spending on games will reach $3.5 billion by 2025, up from $2.7 billion in 2022. According to the Game Brazil Survey (PGB), which analyzes gaming habits in Latin America, the number of Brazilians who play games has increased significantly.

A survey involving 13,360 participants revealed that 73.9% reported playing electronic games regularly, a 3.8% rise compared to 2023. The most represented age group was 35–39 years old (16.9%), followed by 30–34 years old. The third spot saw a tie between the 20–24 and 25–29 age groups. Among respondents, 85.4% stated that video games are among their primary forms of entertainment.

The PGB data also highlights the dominance of mobile devices among gaming enthusiasts. Smartphones were cited by 48.8% of respondents as their preferred gaming platform, followed by gaming consoles at 21.7% and computers at 14.8%. Tablet users account for 2.8%, while 7.8% of respondents prefer laptops.

Factors Driving Growth

The success of the gaming market in Brazil is no accident. Various factors contribute to this accelerated growth, which is also seen in other Latin American countries. One key factor is the expansion of high-speed internet and mobile data coverage, alongside the implementation of 5G technology. The advancement of mobile internet, combined with the greater affordability of smartphones, has made gaming more accessible, broadening its audience.

Although the cost of gaming computers and other electronic equipment in Brazil remains high for many families, eSports continue to grow in popularity. This has led to the creation of communities and an engaged gaming culture that supports Brazilian teams and content creators. As a result, major companies are investing in the gaming scene, capitalizing on this passion while strengthening the electronic games market.

Looking Ahead

The Brazilian gaming market appears far from reaching its peak. The outlook for the coming years is optimistic, with continuous growth expected, particularly in the mobile and eSports segments. The Newzoo report projects an annual global market growth rate of 3.1% through 2027, bringing total revenues to $213.3 billion. It is hard to imagine Brazil not keeping pace with this upward trend.

Additionally, the rollout of 5G and the popularization of technologies like virtual and augmented reality promise to further transform the gaming experience. Local development may also gain momentum, with Brazilian indie studios beginning to gain international recognition, which could open up even more opportunities in the industry.
